Kasbah: castles of old Morocco.

Kasbah: castles of old Morocco.
Morocco has many amazing historical Kasbahs that are characterized by their beautiful appearance and their history.
The Moroccan kasbah was a place for the local Caid or Pacha to live in and a place of defense when the city is under attack. Sometimes, those kasbahs were built on hilltops so that they could be more easily defended such as the famous Ait Benhaddou near Ouarzazate.
Ait Ben Haddou
The kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou is one of the most photographed enclaves in Morocco. Stepping there is like being part of a fairy tale you’ll never want to leave.
A small path, ending in the river, which you will have to cross using an improvised bridge made out of sandbags will lead you to the best views of Ait Ben Haddou.

It is no accident that many great films like «Lawrence of Arabia”, “Gladiator” and “Game of throne” were filmed there because it retains the character and atmosphere of centuries ago when kasbah was an important post on the camel caravan route from Africa to Morocco crossing many cities like Rachidia, Erfoud, and Rissani where you will discover other Kasbahs that will let you know more about the history and  other culture of Morocco.
Morocco’s Southern region and in particular the region of Skoura is referred to the “Valley of one-thousand Kasbahs” referring to the way-stations of ancient caravan routes traveled by tradesmen and adventurers. They brought with them customs and crafts, and skills, and they sought shelter and social interaction within secure Kasbah walls.
More Kasbahs are being renovated and turned into boutique hotels and guesthouses to offer travelers an exciting authentic experience.
